Concrete is sold by the strength in psi (pounds per square inch).

• 2000 & 2500 psi concrete in years past were considered normal for footings and foundations, but these days are considered low strength.

• 3000 psi concrete is the most common for residential foundations, footings and interior floors.

• 4000 psi concrete would be used on driveways, garage floors, outside walkways and patios or when specified on commercial jobs.

• 5000 psi concrete is mainly an industrial strength concrete that is specified for special jobs.

CDF or Controlled Density Fill is a very low strength concrete used as a backfill in trenches or to fill footings. It has about the same strength as compacted gravel.

Concrete Additives

A. Graziano Inc. is proud to use W. R. Grace concrete additives.

Concrete additives are put in the concrete to help the workability of the concrete and to help extend it's life. For example in regions of the country where freezing and thawing conditions are normal, an additive is added that entrains air into the concrete. the air acts as a cushion when the concrete is expanding and contracting with the changing temperatures. Another example is that since too much water added to the concrete at the jobsite is very harmful, another additive is put into the concrete called a water reducer. This allows the concrete to be more workable without adding too much water. These two additives are always added to the concrete at Graziano Concrete at no extra cost.

Other additives are available at a cost. There are additives to make the concrete cure faster or slower depending on your needs. You can replace the wire mesh reinforcement with polypropelene mesh that gives a three dimensional reinforcement rather than the two dimension of wire or you can add one that increases the strength of the concrete dramatically.
